Notice the multiple curves - inward and out. The entire staircase had a curved shape, like a boat, and then was bent outward to make the corner curves. There was a lot of painstaking hand bending.

The staircase that was removed had thick old supports hanging from the ceiling. Part of the look was to streamline it to small cable supports, which entailed climbing up a three story opening!

Unfortunately, we cannot locate the final pictures of this staircase. All the rails were hand bent on-site, and they were in process here. The end result was a smooth, three-story beauty, reminiscent of the sleek, dark lines in Batman's cave...
